What is Akron Idol?

Akron Idol, in its fourth year, is a local singing event held at the Russell Park gazebo located in Akron NY. The event is coordinated by the Akron Celebration Committee, a non-profit volunteer organization dedicated to the strengthening the Akron-Newstead community.

How does it work?
The Idol event is a karaoke style program. A series of qualifying rounds will be held at local establishments in the Akron-Newstead area preceding the final. For dates, times and locations, see the schedule page.

Contestants simply go to the venue and notify the event sponsor or disc jockey (DJ) that they are there to qualify for Idol. Contestants than pick a song or series of songs they would like to sing to qualify. They fill out a card and submit it to the DJ. Any style, any genre, it is all up to the contestant. When your time in the rotation comes up, the DJ will call your name, announce to the crowd that you are a contestant and you're off!

Each event will be judged by a Celebration committee member, a representative of the sponsoring location and the DJ. Three (3) individuals will qualify for the elimination round at each location. If you don't qualify at that location on that night, don't worry, you can try again. With  multiple rounds, there are plenty of opportunities for you to qualify.

In addition, if you qualify, please come out to the other venues and support our sponsors and practice, practice, practice for your big night.

The finalists will compete in the final held July 4th in Russell Park gazebo during the Annual Akron Celebration.
Why should I sing?
Third place receives $50. Second $100. And the Winner $150.
